Hamel 45 Gallon Drum Experiment - Mark 2 - The Cones

The following are details of the cones used in my Hamel 45 Gallon Drum Mark 2.

Two of the cones side-by-side, one with the aluminum skin and one without.

Here is the same thing, different view. Note that the cone with skin shown below does not contain the inner cone in this picture.

Closeup of the cone without skin. The ring is 1 inch wide by 2/16 inch thick aluminum.

Closeup showing details of notch which the point of another cone would sit in. The notch was drilled and carved into the top of the screw, then 2 hex nuts were added, the top nut providing extra security in case the cone that is sitting in it decides to jump up out of the notch.

Bottom view of top cone without skin - Note the cross at the top with the wooden disk attached to it. This is for attaching the top magnet.

Top view of middle or bottom cone. Note that the aluminum skin that you see is actually the inner cone skin. The notch that the cone above sits in is visible in the center. Bags containing dirt are sitting between the inner and outer cones and so cannot be seen without removing the inner cone.

Side view of the same cone clearly showing that the middle and bottom cones are made up of two cones - an inner one and and outer one.

Side view of a cone showing the outer cone skin.

View looking in the top cone at the bags that add to the weight needed to make the cones barely float. The bags are filled with dirt.
