An ornithopter is a flying machine that flaps its wings like a bird. In this case it gets its power from a special rubber band, the type specifically for lightweight flying machines like this one. See it in action in the video below.
Below are some photos showing more of the mechanism with wings up and down. Notice the rubber band and the cranking mechanism at the front of the wings.
